If you like retro, arcade, and awesome repost/reimagination, sit down and take a deep breath. Then click on the video above and watch Taito EGRET II Mini. Soak it, we will wait…
As far as the cool factor is concerned, it has. As you can see in the video, it has a screen that can be rotated from landscape to portrait, which should be great for TATE games. You can also switch the joystick from 8-way to 4-way to match the game you are playing. In terms of games, it will have 40 built-in, and the other 10 will be sold in an expansion pack with a trackball controller; there is also an SD slot where you can run other games you buy.
This is the Mini and modern iteration of a fairly neat full-size cabinet EGRET II released in 1996. In the combination of nostalgia and style, it looks very attractive.
Of course, this will be mainly released in Japan, so most will need to rely on imports. Pre-orders started today for 18,678 yen (approximately US$170), but will not be released until March 2, 2022. We have provided an Amazon Japan link below for those who are interested.
As you can see on the Amazon Japan page below, if you want to enter a local multiplayer game on your system, there are various additional controllers.
