The best Pokemon game ever

Image: Nintendo Life

What is the best Pokemon game? Ranking such classics turned out to be difficult given that many of them would be one of the best games of a particular console generation. So I decided to modify the existing ranked list and ask Nintendo Life readers to rate all the games in the series. This is the result.

For clarity, this is just Main line Entry; Games that bring a new generation of Pokemon into the mix, their sequels, the ultimate version, and remakes of those games, including the latest Pokemon Brilliant Diamonds and Shining Pearls. However, spin-offs other than the mainline are not included here — sorry Pokemon Smile fans.

As with any list of reader ranks, the following order is governed by user ratings for each game in the game database and may change after publication. Registered users of Nintendo Life can still rate the game by simply clicking on the star next to the listed title and giving the game a 10-point scale. Do you think there are games worth making higher? Obtaining a rating can affect the following order in real time:

So, according to your lovely people, read to find the best mainline Pokemon game ever …

And if this list made you feel warm about everything in the series, feel free to fix the balance in this list of 11 times the Pokemon series was really bad. a little bit.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Switch)Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Switch)

the publisher: Nintendo / / Developer: ILCA

release date: November 19, 2021 (USA). / / November 19, 2021 (UK / EU).

Some of the slower elements of the original game have been fixed with Pokemon Brilliant Diamonds and Shining Pearls, and the Grand Underground complements the relatively weak Pokédex, but the new art style and some other stumbling blocks are this pair. Generation 4 retread that makes the game a little disappointing. If these remake missions are to remain true to the original 4th generation pair, we also hope to stick to the aesthetics of pixel art.

These Brilliant and Shining remakes stick very closely to the original template-some players definitely welcome it-but except for the connectivity between the Grand Underground and the current game in the series. There is little reason to play Pokemon Brilliant Diamonds and Shining Pearls on top of the original DS copy.

Pokemon: Let's go, Pikachu! And let's go, Eevee! (switch)Pokemon: Let's go, Pikachu! And let's go, Eevee! (switch)

the publisher: Nintendo / / Developer: Game freak

release date: November 16, 2018 (USA). / / November 16, 2018 (UK / EU).

Pokemon: Let’s go, Pikachu! And let’s go, Eevee! Is a beautiful rethink of the classic video game, updating the game 20 years ago to make it infinitely accessible and user-friendly for modern viewers, while being first discovered many years ago. Keeping the magic. The downside is that the motion control mechanism is fun but flawed and you have to move from one playstyle to another to get the best experience. Still, the game does a great job of balancing being an easy entry route for beginners with offering. is enough Post-game challenges and competitive play elements (and of course nostalgia) to please the veterans of the series. As a result, these new titles really offer something to everyone, but that’s not always the case with mainline Pokemon entries. They may not be absolute masterpieces, but we encourage Pokefans out there to try these stuff.

Pokemon Sword and Shield (Switch)Pokemon Sword and Shield (Switch)

the publisher: Nintendo / / Developer: Game freak

release date: November 15, 2019 (USA). / / November 15, 2019 (UK / EU).

Pokemon Sword and Shield has succeeded in bringing some new ideas to the table, but there are also areas where it can be pushed further. What was done right will be done rightHowever, there are some elements that feel like they came from a design document 10 years ago. It contains the best moments in the history of the series, but this joy is sometimes ruined by the contrasting moments that disappointed us. It’s a high and low experience, from the pure surprise and joy of seeing a brand new Pokemon in a stadium full of cheering crowds to the monotonous and dragged dialogue we wanted to skip. The wonder of exploring the wild area is NS Evolution of the series.

Overall, Pokemon Swords and Shields were a very solid start to HD generation Pokemon games, but there is room for improvement.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

the publisher: Nintendo / / Developer: Game freak

release date: November 17, 2017 (USA). / / November 17, 2017 (UK / EU).

When X / Y When Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire, 3DS already had some great Pokemon in its name, Pokemon Sun Moon Perhaps it felt like a new start for players who were on the trend of RPG collectors. In addition to improved character models and customizations, the addition of a powerful Z move ensures that the fan-popular Gen I Pokemon is back in the new Arora form, not only for the loyal people of the franchise, but also for the first 151. I was able to enthuse those who can remember. , These movements and activities Ultra Editions make them the most “complete” variants.

It’s a pity that I couldn’t see my favorite monster in 3D, but this is a traditional style Pokemon cream de la cream in 3DS.

Pokemon Sun Moon (3DS)Pokemon Sun Moon (3DS)

the publisher: Nintendo / / Developer: Game freak

release date: November 18, 2016 (USA). / / November 23, 2016 (UK / EU).

Pokemon Sun and Moon is some of the best Pokemon games Game Freak has ever created. Pokeperago, side quests, the absolutely wonderful nature of the presentation, it’s all pure pleasure from start to finish. Game Freak was able to carefully balance the inclusion of new mechanics without completely ruining things for the most hardcore fans. Content is coming out of my ears that is a much more interesting story than previous efforts, rewarding exploration in ways other titles in the series didn’t have at that time.

Whether you are an old or new Pokemon fan, this should be in your 3DS library.

Pokemon X & Y (3DS)Pokemon X & Y (3DS)

the publisher: Nintendo / / Developer: Game freak

release date: October 12, 2013 (USA). / / October 12, 2013 (UK / EU).

Game Freak once again nailed straight to his head Pokemon X and Y.. A great blend of excitement and nostalgia, evolving the core series with an impressive polygon 3D environment and stunning camera angles, with some technical tweaks to the original formula we all know and love. Added a completely new Pokemon type. It’s not a revolution at all. X and Y are a very good pair, although they are slightly hampered by the slight use of 3D features without glasses on the host platform.

Pokemon Diamond Pearl (DS)Pokemon Diamond Pearl (DS)

the publisher: Nintendo / / Developer: Game freak

release date: April 22, 2007 (USA). / / July 27, 2007 (UK / EU).

I’m doing my best not to spit out Prince’s lyrics. Pokemon Diamond Pearl?? The core experience remains the same, and at the time, these were the best Pokemon games ever created. Like many video games that have been successful enough to produce an endless series of sequels, each entry is destined to settle under its successor and will be compressed over time into just a fossil. Worth collecting, storing and remembering. , But worth it play When have they been repeated many times since then?

It’s a difficult question to answer, and I think it’s the price of success and progress, but Diamond & Pearl may not boast the sophistication we’re used to right now, but it’s still a great Pokemon game. Deserves to be taken out of the shelf, I was actually playing occasionally. They should make you a happy boy or girl.
