Perhaps the latest Nintendo Direct highlight was the announcement that the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) games will be available on the Switch Online service as “expansion pack” services next month.
This is new (But old) A controller for services that are currently wireless. There is a Nintendo 64 controller and a 3-button Sega Genesis controller. If you’re in Japan and happen to be an NSO member, it looks like you can actually get a 6-button version of Sega’s wireless gamepad.
Obviously, it’s not the best news for Sega fans here in the west, but it’s not too surprising. When Sega released the Sega Mega Drive Mini locally in 2019, it did exactly the same thing-creating a 6-button gamepad specifically for Japan.
The 3-button Sega Genesis Wireless gamepad for Switch returns to $ 49.99 / £ 39.99 / € 49.99. For more information on the latest controllers for the Switch Online service, see our previous post.
