Nintendo’s latest corporate management briefing revealed that as of September 2021, Nintendo Switch Online, a paid subscription service, had more than 32 million members.

The last significant figure was when the company announced in September 2020 that it had more than 26 million users. According to the latest update, the number of subscribers is increasing again thanks to the expanding installation base of Switch hardware. This currently reaches 92.87 million units.

As always, the company reiterated how to “improve and continue to expand” its services. It also officially states how this includes improvements to the new “expansion pack” layer. Unfortunately, standalone numbers for “expansion pack” subscribers are not shared and may not be shared.

“We will continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack to provide services that satisfy our customers.”

The expansion pack has just been announced and released and includes two new retro libraries, the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Megadrive / Genesis. In addition to this, Nintendo has added Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC-Happy Home Paradise.

This new premium tier has not received a warm welcome from Switch fans. Many questions have been asked about the price and value of the service and the quality of the N64 emulation.
