So far, 13.4 million PlayStation 5 consoles have been sold, and 3.3 million PS5s have been sold in the second quarter of July-September, according to Sony’s latest financial report.

As revealed in Sony’s second quarter financial resultsThe company’s Gaming & Network Services segment sold over 1 million PS5s to retailers in the quarter compared to the previous three-month period. This is the second highest PS5 quarterly sales, comparable to the fourth quarter of 2020 and slightly below the record 4.5 million units of sales in the third quarter of 2020.

These revenues contributed to Sony’s gaming division’s total revenue of $ 5.86 billion, up 27% year-on-year as the best second quarter PlayStation has ever achieved. Of that revenue, $ 715 million was used as profit. Despite remarkable sales, operating income fell 21% year-on-year. This is partly due to lower PS4 sales (consoles sold only 0.2 million units this quarter) and PS5 consoles selling in the red.

Overall, PlayStation accounted for 27% of Sony’s total revenue and 26% of total operating profit this quarter.

In terms of game sales, Sony reports that it sold 76.4 million games on PS4 and PS5 during the quarter. In terms of lifetime sales, God of War was the largest seller, with 19.5 million copies. Meanwhile, Horizon Zero Dawn shifted 10m and Marvel’s Spider-Man sold 13.2m. In PS5, Demon’s Souls sold 1.4 million copies and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart sold 1.2m.
