Have you ever wondered what it would be like to pack the full power of Game Boy Advance into Tiger Electronics’ handheld gaming system of the 80’s? Probably not, but it was hardware modder and creator Chris Downing who always wanted to make his dream come true.
Downing admits that it’s technically just a simple case mod. That is, put the inside of the GBA inside the Tiger portable unit and upgrade some hardware. It was intended to be a “pretty simple project”, but certain parts like 3D printing actually became a bit of a nightmare.
You can see the entire project in the video above, but if you don’t have time to see it, take a look at the final form of your device.
The final version of the system is actually a bit larger and comes with a custom printed CNC cut screen protector, USB-C charging and an IPS screen. You can also play old Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, just like GBA.
You can see more of Downing’s Frankenstein’s work YouTube channel -He used to put the entire Nintendo 64 unit in a portable case. What do you think of this Tiger Electronics xGBA hybrid? Please leave your thoughts below.
