Thanks to the cooperation with Microsoft, Sega finally moved “Phantasy Star Online 2” westward in 2020. This is the first step in the transformation journey of an action MMO. Today, Sega launched Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, which is a great addition to PSO2. This is not just a traditional expansion of the 2012 game, but a brand new experience. This is a quick start on what to expect after logging in.
New Genesis may have started with the same launcher as its predecessor, but everything about the world, missions, battles, and enemies is brand new. Sega even overhauled the graphics of the game, and in the process made PSO2 look like it belongs to 2021. Occurring 1000 years after the original PSO2, New Genesis lets players customize ARKS loose in the open world on Halpha planet. With this new approach to environmental design, the movement has undergone some changes. ARKS runs faster and jumps higher. They can glide in the air for long-distance flight, and the characters tend to float and slam in battle.
Humans, Newmans, Casts and Deumans are the four playable races currently in the game. They can serve as six classic Phantasy Star online courses: Hunter, Warrior, Ranger, Gunner, Force or Technician. Each profession is good at a certain type of weapon and plays a specific role on the battlefield. All these classes are in the base game, although some are missing. Not all content enters the new Genesis one-on-one. Some changes are expected in further research.
Since New Genesis and PSO2 are included in the same client, players can bring their characters to this new experience. The appearance of the characters in both games is the same, including bringing the creation in the newly enhanced character editor back to OG PSO2. Unfortunately, there are some caveats about letting the character live in two different time periods. Many items and equipment will not be transferred to NGS because they may not even exist in the new game. The role level, experience, professional skills and photon art are not converted.
The weapon is a bit complicated. The visual style of the weapon will remain consistent between different versions, but there may be different statistics, and may only be equipped at higher levels. Some weapon categories have not yet entered the future, so any weapons that have not yet entered must now wait in PSO2.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be available on PC and current Xbox consoles from today. Do you have a chance to play? Please tell us your thoughts on this in the comments section below.
