Nintendo Life eShop Collection-May 2021-Features

In terms of high-quality eShop masterpieces, May is a bit low-key, but there are still many games that are definitely worth your visit.

These awards are designed to recognize the best in Nintendo’s digital store and give some love and attention to games that are easy to miss in the Switch’s growing library.

So let’s get started. This is the best Switch eShop game of May 2021!

Although these games did not fully enter our top three this month, they are still worth checking out:

Knockout City (Switch eShop)Knockout City (Switch eShop)

Publisher: Electronic art / Developer: Vilan Studio

Release date: May 21, 2021 (United States) / May 21, 2021 (UK/EU)

Ranked third this month is Knockout City, a colorful arcade dodgeball game that exudes some very popular Splatoon atmosphere.

We gave this powerful 9/10 in the comments, calling it an “absolute blast, and it’s easy for a novice with enough depth and strategy to jump in for a crew hoping to become the ultimate dodgeball champion.” Just as you said. As expected, playing with friends is definitely better than playing with strangers, but it works well on Switch, and cross-play means you can always get into the game quickly. This is definitely worth seeing.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (Switch eShop)Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (Switch eShop)

Publisher: interaction / Developer: Black Island Studio

Release date: May 7, 2021 (United States) / May 7, 2021 (UK/EU)

Jumping to second place is Baldur’s Gate: The Dark Alliance, a punitive but pleasant dungeon exploration game.

Due to its high level of difficulty, especially by today’s standards, this is not for everyone, but if you are looking for a challenge, this is an excellent port of the original 2001 and will bring a lot of fun. In our review, we said, “It may surpass its popularity to some extent because its gameplay is not complicated enough to guarantee its long battle, but the port is the best we have seen. One of the ports that improves the original version and maintains a perfect frame rate as well as a user interface that is very suitable for handheld games.”

Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Standing Behind (Switch eShop)Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Standing Behind (Switch eShop)

Publisher: Nintendo / Developer: Nintendo

Release date: May 14, 2021 (United States) / May 14, 2021 (UK/EU)

Last month we released Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir and Famicom Detective Club: The girl standing behind, although we like both, the latter was ranked top in our employee vote and won this month’s eShop Selects Won the gold medal.

Maybe it’s because the story of “The Girl Behind” is more creepy than the missing heir, or because the characters are more flattering? To be honest, if you are interested in the previously obscure Nintendo history or the old-school point-and-click advantages, then any one (or both) of these games is worth a try. If you have a way to buy these two, it is definitely the way to go, but if you have to choose only one, maybe go with the girl standing behind.

How do we decide our eShop to choose the top three: At the end of each month, the staff of Nintendo Life will vote for their favorite game from the list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must be released as purely digital Nintendo Switch eShop games in that particular month and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select qualified games based on their review scores.

Then ask employees to vote for the three games they think should be at the top of the list; the first choice gets 3 points, the second choice gets 2 points, and the third choice gets 1 point. Then these votes are counted to create the top three, and the championship will win the highest award of the month.
