Nintendo says it expects server issues to occur on Christmas weekends, especially when it comes to creating Nintendo Accounts.

In a tweet about a Japanese customer service account, the company wrote (according to Google Translate):

“We don’t expect Nintendo Accounts to be created immediately due to heavy traffic on the #Nintendo Account server this weekend. If you’re new to the Nintendo Switch family, we recommend creating one.”

Nintendo hasn’t specifically pointed out the repeat of the problem this year, but it may be worth remembering. If you bought the Switch for someone this Christmas, it might be worth creating an account and downloading the game in advance, just in case.
