I wish Kingdom Hearts was native to Switch.True port is still “undecided”

During a recent Super Smash Bros. presentation that revealed that Kingdom Hearts Sora was the last DLC fighter, it became clear that the entire Kingdom Hearts series was heading for Switch. What was supposed to be an incredible announcement was somewhat weakened, but the problem was that the entire collection was only available in the form of a cloud version.

It is no exaggeration to say that the reaction was not so great. We conducted a poll here at Nintendo Life to see how many people might be interested in getting a cloud version. At the time of writing, only 9% of respondents were confident in answering “yes”. The majority of respondents weren’t interested at all or would have preferred the game’s native port.

Recently, I had the opportunity to ask Ichiro Hazama, the producer of the Kingdom Hearts series. Why are these games only available as a cloud version?

Nintendo Life: From an outsider’s perspective, we’ve seen other high-quality ports of classic Square Enix games like FINAL FANTASY X. X-2 runs natively on Switch. So why did you release the Kingdom Hearts series as a cloud version on Switch instead of optimizing it to run natively on Switch hardware?

Ichiro Hazama: “For a while, director Tetsuya Nomura said he wanted to bring the Kingdom Hearts series to Nintendo Switch players. He was watching and listening to that demand, so a lot of consideration was given internally. It turned out to be very difficult for various reasons, such as the storage capacity of the hardware that brought the title to Nintendo Switch, but I am happy that it was possible for the first time by using the cloud service. “

They are all here. a little.

Pushing a little further, we first asked about the possibility of native ports:

NL: I think it was almost impossible to run the entire series smoothly on Switch, but is it possible to recreate Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix so that it can run natively on Switch later? Is this a kind of stop gap?

Hazama: “At this point, we haven’t decided on a native version. We currently believe that the cloud version is the best way to bring the Kingdom Hearts series to Nintendo Switch players, but we’re looking forward to your feedback. And I want to thank all their support. “

Sure, these cloud versions sound like they’re still there, but at least there’s no real possibility of a true release of some Kingdom Hearts games. completely out of the question.
