Forspoken developers discuss things like the Magic Parkour system-Tokyo Game Show 2021

The team behind the upcoming open world RPG Horspoken discussed many details about the game, including its spells, adversaries, and “magic hoodies.”

During ~ Expanded special showcase As part of the Tokyo Game Show 2021, co-director Takefumi Terada and creative producer Rio Mitsuno shed a little more light on the game. Forspoken focuses on Frey, a young woman who travels through the portal to the strange lands of Asia, and her adventures to get home.

As already seen in the game trailer, Frey can use magic, and Terada said learning to use magical abilities is a big part of the story. As you might expect after watching the trailer, magic is also at the heart of Forspoken’s combat system. Frey can use a variety of spells to attack and trap enemies. In the game trailer, I saw an explosive spell on the floor in one scene and a polka dot wrapping an enemy in another.

There is a huge array of spells to learn and many ways to make them stronger. “Our goal was to allow players to learn a variety of spells,” Terada said. He went on to say that the game was designed to encourage players to try different types of magic.

Asia is a vast open world that Frey traverses through what Terada called “magic parkour.” “I really feel that we are capturing why our development style at Luminous Productions is so special,” said Terada. Frey can be seen moving quickly from place to place, covering long distances in the air, and performing similar movements to the bullet-jumping mechanic of the early 2010s action game Warframe.

Terada also said that the control of the game is simple and that magic and parkour skills can each be used with a single button.

Forspoken was first introduced to the world as Project Athia in June 2020. Even in the early stages, the team wanted to show what they could do with next-generation hardware. They once again said their goal was to create a game with the best graphics in the world.

“We work hard every day to polish our graphics,” Mitsuno said. The team wants to convey this through the various environments of the game, from ruins to forests and other areas. This game is developed using the Luminous Engine developed by Square Enix and Luminous Productions.

Speaking of the Forspoken world, the developers talked a bit about the settings, but didn’t reveal much. When we meet Frey, she’s struggling in New York and promises her cat will get better somewhere soon. She wants to be free from the Big Apple, so it’s half right, but she rolls through the portal to the strange land of Asia.

Frey isn’t alone, but added a cuff, a sensuous, talking golden bracelet that somehow wrapped around her right arm during her trip from New York to Asia. The developers said they haven’t fully elaborated on the exact role that the cuff plays. It’s only essential to the story and helps players reach their next goal. They said, but there will be a lot of jokes between the two. “Both say whatever they think,” Mitsuno said. “This means they are always fighting.”

Asia, where Frey is now finding herself, was once a beautiful and peaceful land dominated by Tantus. The land became a harsh and cruel place after an event that the developers didn’t reveal. As Frey is seen fighting a type called Tantashira in the trailer of the game, it seems that the aforementioned Tantas has also deteriorated. Each Tanta is designed with specific characteristics in mind. For example, Tantashira’s strength is found in her muscular arms.

According to Terada, production is currently at its peak as the team is making progress towards the release of the game on PS5 and PC in the spring of 2022.
