Capcom dubs Resident Evil 3 and sells 3.9 million copies before recreating a “hit”

Capcom is pleased with the results of the 2020 Resident Evil 3 remake. Publishers call the game a “hit” (along with Monster Hunter Rise) in its annual report released today, and there are numbers to back it up. The game sold 3.9 million copies.

This was more than what the original incarnation, Resident Evil 3 in 1999, sold, achieving only 3.5 copies. Capcom has attributed the success of the remake to its digital sales strategy, which, by the way, has sold 3.9 million copies since March 31st of this year, so it probably sold a little more. It’s understandable, given that last year’s review felt it was “another stellar remake of Capcom’s classic survival horror.”

In an industry that prefers to hide sales as much as possible, Capcom’s annual report is always a great pace of change. As always, Resident Evil Village has sold 4.5 million units, and several new games have been sold, including this year’s hit Monster Hunter Rise, as described by the publisher. Was included in the update. Monster Hunter World: Iceborn sold 2.4 million units last year alone, surpassing 5.2 million units last year. This does not include pre-Iceborn Monster Hunter World sales.

Monster Hunter: World, by the way, is doing well — Capcom feels comfortable enough to discount it significantly. According to Capcom, World has sold more than 17 million copies in total, accounting for more than half of what has been sold since the second year. Capcom says the game has been discounted up to $ 10 in the past, but the game is already profitable. Capcom suggests that even as low as $ 5 can make a profit, publishers will take advantage of the low price to expand their user base. As stated later in the report, the goal is to sell 20 million copies of World.

In particular, Capcom’s quarterly report from July to September of this year also fell at the same time, providing the latest information on Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Blue Inn, which sold 1 million copies in the first few months, and sales of Monster Hunter Rise. It continued to grow during this period.
