“From December 2nd, new zombie content and features will begin to roll out in Vanguard,” said Treyarch. “Players will also encounter some other surprising factor in setting the stage for the next main quest in the second half of Season 1.

The main quest is clearly tied to “unexpected arrival of allies after Season 1”. I don’t know exactly when it will drop the main quest. I took a look at the Call of Duty Vanguard roadmap. It details the game plan from launch to the start of Season 1.

Treyarch handles zombie mode while Sledgehammer develops most of Vanguard. Recently, Treyarch has been very busy with Call of Duty, leading the development of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in 2018 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020.

Vanguard isn’t the only upcoming first-person shooter to add key content after launch. Halo Infinite, which will be available next month, will ship without campaign cooperation or Forge at launch. Similar to today’s Vanguard Zombies news, both features will appear in Halo after Season 1.
