EA has announced that players who have purchased the standard digital version of Battlefield 2042 will be able to upgrade from PS4 or Xbox One to the new generation PS5 or Xbox Series X / S versions for free. This was a U-turn in EA’s previous stance, and players had to own a more expensive Gold Edition to qualify for the upgrade.
The standard digital version of Battlefield 2042 includes EA’s “Dual Entitlement” feature. That is, it comes with both generations of games. So far, EA has announced this feature only for the digital version of Battlefield 2042, so at least for now, the physical copy of the game includes a new generation upgrade of dual entitlement. It doesn’t seem to be.
Prior to this change, dual entitlement was only available to those who purchased the Gold Edition of Battlefield 2042, which sells for $ 99.99 / £ 89.99. This change makes it significantly cheaper to upgrade if your PS4 and Xbox One players move to a PS5 or Xbox Series X / S console.
Battlefield 2042 will be available this weekend as part of the open beta. This beta version can now be preloaded on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S. This open beta is available to all players, but pre-ordered players will be able to play from October 6th.
