Astroneer is on Switch today with a “Xenobiology” update that adds space snails

The amazing space-based sandbox adventure game Astroneer is released today on Nintendo Switch, for the first time in the game’s six-year history, with new updates that add creatures to the world. (By the way, you can read Astroneer’s review here. I really like it, not just the space snails.)

The Xenobiology update is released today on all platforms at the same time, bringing a new mission to the game to begin the quest for a very important and very cute pet.

The “Space Snail” is now part of the Astroneer world. Players have the opportunity to acquire these unique and adaptable creatures as permanent companions that also benefit their caretakers.

Each Galastropod loves treats and feeding makes them very happy and energetic. While the Gallastropod is full, players will receive unique perks to support their adventures. Glass Tropods also have a favorite food that extends the duration of their benefits when fed. “

In addition to the space snails, there are new cosmetics, lots of new hats, and cosmetics to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the game in the store. This is available to all players who log in at a specific time frame.

The launch trailers for Switch are:

And here is the Xenobiology patch note:

  • Certain new missions now require items and permanent rewards. Both of these allow players to respawn at the nearest landing pad for convenience (or if misplaced). Mission items are limited to one item per save, but permanent rewards are available as one item per player.
  • Various performance efforts have been made to support the release of Switch and improve the overall player experience on all platforms. Players should notice an improvement in load times, especially on the console.
  • We’ve literally moved to heaven to fix an issue that causes some players to “stack” at seemingly random points while moving. This fix applies only to new saves for the time being. Old preservation should not be affected.
  • All dangerous flora has been updated to produce multiple seeds to allow easier cultivation. Seed growth time has also been reduced (to feed hungry snails!)
  • Planets have a large impact when selecting a planet from a view of the solar system, which makes it easier to select a planet, especially when using a controller.
  • Updated localizations for Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese
  • [AS-16895] Fixed a bug where the client was not displaying the beacon from the field shelter in the orbit view.
  • [AS-16846] The “From Thin Air” mission can now only be completed if the gas is produced by an atmospheric condenser.
  • [AS-16661] The mission text in the mission log will remain in uppercase when the mission is completed.
  • [AS-16889] Fixed a bug where a rugged squash seed bumpy variant was misaligned when put into a slot
  • [AS-16639] Fixed a bug where players weren’t unlocking their wanderer suits when playing offline or having a bad connection
  • [AS-16298] Fixed an exploit that used solid fuel thrusters were producing more scrap from shredders than it cost to get the resources needed to create them from the trading platform. Both new and used solid fuel thrusters now produce 1.5 scrap nuggets when shredded.
  • [AS-11904] The small canister no longer floats when placed in the medium canister by the autoarm.
  • [AS-7313] Fixed a bug where multiple packagers were attached to an object during packaging and the extra packager would break and become unusable.
  • [AS-7306] Fixed a collision issue that could prevent items placed next to the Daggeroot hazard from interacting with each other.
  • [AS-7163] Fixed a bug where Spaceport POI wouldn’t spawn at all or would occur at a significantly reduced rate. Players should see these more often!
