According to the new report, Starfield will not join PS5

Starfield will not enter PlayStation 5, Game beat Reporting. Instead, Bethesda’s first-person science fiction role-playing adventure seems to be the main console exclusive to Xbox Series X|S. GamesBeat cited sources familiar with the decision in its report. Reporter Jeff Grubb Tweeted earlier “Starfield is dedicated to Xbox and PC. Period.” We contacted representatives of Microsoft and Bethesda to solicit comments on these reports.

Starfield was first announced at the 2018 E3 conference and is the sci-fi successor to the popular Bethesda RPG’s Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. At this point, people know very little about the game itself. The Bethesda engine has also been confirmed to undergo the largest upgrade in the second half of last year.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in September 2020 raised questions about whether Starfield will remain multi-platform or will become an exclusive platform. The Deadloop announced before the acquisition is still a limited time exclusive sale of PS5. Xbox has always been more open to publishing its first-party titles on other platforms, while Ori and Minecraft Dungeons are both released on Nintendo Switch. The problem remains, but if these reports are accurate, we have a better understanding of Xbox’s future intentions for Bethesda and other major acquisitions. Starfield has not yet released a date.
